Show News!

Our next production, announced in the December newsletter, will be "The Beggar's Opera". This will be directed by Gabrielle Esplin with able assistance from Graham Tipple. It is being planned for late June to coincide with the village's Sheepfair celebrations, which this year have a Regency period theme.

 

The Beggar's Opera...

Despite the name, it's not so much an opera as a sort of 18th century pantomime with a mixture of comedy, melodrama and popular songs of the day, some with well known tunes such as "Over the Hills and Far Away" and "Greensleeves".

It is the story of the dashing highwayman Captain MacHeath and his latest conquest, pretty Polly Peachum. Polly’s father, who is the local fence and crime boss, disapproves of the match and he and Mrs Peachum plot to have him hanged and to claim the reward money. Polly warns MacHeath about her parents’ plan and he flees.


However, MacHeath stops for a farewell party with some of the loose women of the town, little knowing that two of their number has been bribed to distract him....

New-look website!

The new website is under development, and as you can see, it's a fresh new look!  We are currently developing pages to inform and impress.  If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, email us...

 

We are setting up a "members only" area, where you can get the latest information society business, committee goings-on, and membership contact details.  Since some of this information is potentially sensitive, we will be setting a password on this area once the information is live.  To get the current username and password, email us at the address above.

 

But the BIG BIG news is our great new "Photo Gallery"...  visitors can browse through albums of photos of previous shows, but best of all, register and you can upload your own photos from shows and social events, newspaper reviews, etc. onto the gallery for the world to see!   Click on the "Photo Gallery" link on the left, and take a look!  We're still building up the library of photos, and all contributions are welcome.  Either upload them yourself into existing albums, or email us to request a new photo album/category...
